Kline Cabinetmakers
Green Building Practices

Many cabinet dealers are just that—dealers. They sell mass-produced cabinetry made with low-grade woods, which are shipped in cardboard boxes from a far away factory to a local showroom.

Kline Cabinetmakers believes in preserving the historical relationship between quality woods and the cabinetmaker. For 30+ years Kline has remained an efficient cabinet builder without destroying the integrity of the craft.

As “green” practices are becoming more and more important to our environment, Kline has adapted production and business practices in line with reducing our impact on the environment.

Kline is always looking towards efficient ways of running our shop. We currently adopt several new methods that follow “green” practices:

  • Most plywoods are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified.
  • Kline uses solid lumber supplied by Pike Lumber of Akron, Indiana. Pike has been recognized nationally for their Forest Management Program, which sets limits on harvesting as well as protects special high quality trees for future seed sources.
  • Our cabinets are delivered wrapped in blankets rather than cardboard boxes. We recycle any other paper and cardboard materials on site. Wood cut-offs and waste are usually used for trim moldings and miscellaneous shop needs, and local farmers collect our sawdust shavings for livestock bedding.
  • Kline has added Lyptus eucalyptus wood to our standard wood offerings, which is a fast-growing tree raised on Brazilian plantations. It is considered a renewable hardwood with excellent durability and staining qualities—properties that other fast-growing softwoods and wheatboards cannot match.
  • Company Philanthropy: The Sycamore Land Trust, a leading conservancy for south-central Indiana, is Kline’s principal charitable focus. Doug Dayhoff has served on the board of directors for several years, and together with his wife has donated a conservation easement on their Monroe County Farm.
